Floor Minutes for October 1st, 2019

Meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. by Board president Mike Kilmer.

Present: Charles McQuaig, Eric Martin, J. R. Welcome, Sherry Duffey, Michael Jackson, Peggy Fowler, Robin Reshard, Gregg Hardman, Beth Kilmer, Mike Kilmer

OLD BUSINESS

Robin Reshard presented the treasurer’s report, which was approved by the members. Minutes of the September meeting were approved.

Update on Cervantes/Mobile Highway Corridor Evon spoke with FDOT’s Secretary Gaynor. The next hearing on the Cervantes/Mobile Hway Road Diet has been moved from December to January.

Brownsville Mike reported that Lisa Dees of the Downtown Improvement Board has agreed to cooperate with HBC regarding improvements to the Brownsville neighborhood.

Memorial plaque honoring Gladys Philyaw A new park in Brownsville was dedicated earlier this month in the space opposite the Brownsville Community Center. The park has not been officially named, and the suggestion was made to consider naming the park after Gladys. Members also discussed possibie improvements/emendations to the park. Eric Martin, Michael Jackson and Beth Kilmer will discuss the future of the park and the various suggestions made. They will report back at the next meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

Historical District Status Gregg Hardman, Pensacola’s Historic Preservation Planner, as well as official City Archeologist, was present at the meeting to discuss the possible designation of Brownsville as an official Historic District. This status would ensure that Brownsville was in compliance with all federal, state and city laws pertaining to historic designation. A Brownsville Architectural Survey is among the steps required in order to apply for historical status. Certain constraints on home and business owners may also apply. Gregg will keep in touch with HBC regarding progress towards a decision on the designation.

The meeting adjourned at 6:30. Eric Martin made the meeting to adjourn; Michael Jackson seconded.

* Brownsville Assembly of God Farmshares for the remainder of this year: Oct 19, Nov 9, Dec 14, Jan 11.
* Medical Mission At Home will host an event on the Brownsville Community Center on Sat, Oct 19 offering health screenings, vision screenings, mammograms, social services and other assistance for adults and children. The first 20 chldren to arrive will receive a free child’s bicycle.
