Meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m by Board president Mike Kilmer. Charles McQuaig offered an opening prayer.
Present: Mike Kilmer, Dennis McReynolds, Charles McQuaig, Becky McQuaig, Clara Long, Peggy Fowler, John Johnson Beth Kilmer, Andreal Brown, Shea Kelly, John Johnson
The minutes of the last meeting were approved. Robin Reshard was not present, and will share the treasurer’s report at the April meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
Brownsville Manor Update. Mike reported on changes to layout agreed to by the management of senior housing dwelling Brownsville Manor. A fence will not be installed around the property as originally planned. HBC argued successully that fencing would create a barrier between the residents and their Brownsville neighbors. Instead, the property management has agreed to create two walkways on the property to give north/south access and to create a friendly feeling. There will be fencing around the pool.
A masonry school training program is in place in connection with the construction of the Manor.
NEW BUSINESS
Brownsville Community Center. Community center coordinator, Andreal Brown, reported on efforts by the BCC staff to get to know the neighbors and to encourage awareness of the Center and its activities. Andreal and her staff will choose a Saturday morning to walk around the neighborhood (hopefully wearing Center tee shirts) and make themselves known.
Keep Pensacola Beautiful Shea Kelly and her colleagues from Keep America Beautiful will organize and supervise a neighborhood clean-up in Brownsville on Saturday, March 30. The organization will provide all supplies. All ages can participate, as long as minors are accompanied by an adult. We encourage our friends and neighbors to support this effort.
The Dixon School will host an event on Monday, April 13th. Neighborhood organizations are invited to host a table. For further information call the school at (850) 435-0511.
October Street Festival. Mark your calendar for the Historic Brownsville Community Street Festival to be held on Cervantes Street/Mobile Highway on October 5th and 6th. Watch for further information in the coming weeks.
Peggy Fowler made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:30. Becky McQuaig seconded.
Members discussed naming the room in the Community Center where we meet after founding member Gladys Philyaw, who died on December 29, 2018. All present agreed that a plaque should be created and installed. Clara Long will look into getting the appropriate permissions from Center officials.
